What we’ve actually done — and what we won’t claim

What this piece is: our record, stated exactly, followed by the claims we refuse to make and why. What it is not: a tombstone wall. We do not have one, and this page is what we publish instead. Education, not advice — your accountant, attorney, and family make every real decision with you.
If you read nothing else

The record, exactly: two hundred businesses studied, twenty offers, three acquired — by our principals and partners, who operate them today. Heritage Platform Group as a firm has closed no acquisitions. Five things we refuse to claim follow, with the reasons. Discount everything we say by what this page says.

The record, exactly

Our principals and partners have acquired and operate three businesses in Northern California — in automotive services, food retail, and specialty manufacturing. They studied more than two hundred businesses and made twenty offers to buy those three. That is the whole record. There is no longer version, and this page will not stretch it.

Three is a small number. We know what a page like this usually looks like at other firms, and we know what this one looks like next to it. We publish it anyway, exactly, because a record you can trust at three is worth more than a record you have to squint at thirty.

THE FUNNEL — EXACTLY AS IT HAPPENED 200+ Businesses studied. Financials read, owners met, operations walked. Most were passed on quietly, for reasons that had nothing to do with the owner. Studying is cheap to claim. Offers are not — so read the next row, not this one. 20 Offers made. Real terms, in writing, to real owners. Most offers did not become purchases — the seller chose otherwise, or the fit failedin diligence. A keeper loses auctions. We count that as the model working, not failing. 3 Acquired and operated — by our principals and partners. Automotive services, food retail, specialty manufacturing. Northern California. Still owned. Still operated. That is the point of buying to keep. The whole record, with nothing added. When it grows, this figure changes — and the change is dated, in place, below. ◆ heritageplatformgroup.com · Reetika Gupta and Varun Mahajan
FIGURE 1Two hundred studied, twenty offered, three operated. The narrowing is the honesty: most firms show you only the bottom box. The top two rows are where the discipline lives — walking away, politely, most of the time.Heritage, stated plainly. Counts are our principals’ and partners’ activity, not Heritage-entity transactions.
The reality gap
Today
Every firm’s numbers arrive pre-flattered.
The gap
Unattributed statistics do the flattering; attribution is the difference between a record and a claim.
What’s possible
You know exactly whose record this is — and what it does not prove.
The first move
Hold the attribution against every other page on this site. If any surface drops it, that is a defect; tell us.

What those three businesses taught

These are our principals’ operating lessons, stated generically because the businesses have earned their privacy. Payroll is a promise kept weekly. Every other number in a small business is an opinion until Friday; payroll is the one that is true or it is not, and the people watching know which. A business that needs its owner every day is a job. It can be a good job. But it cannot be sold well, held safely, or handed on, until it stops being one — and the owner is always the last to see it. The first ninety days after a purchase decide the next five years. Not the deal terms — the mornings after. Who stays, who is listened to, which promises get kept in the first payroll cycle under new ownership. Everything we believe about buying to keep was learned there, not in a spreadsheet.

The other lane: businesses we have served

The record above is the owned lane. There is a second lane, and we keep them strictly apart. Heritage’s three service arms — Advisory, Studio, and Intelligence — have real, verifiable experience serving businesses across the industries Heritage works in: trades and field services, manufacturing, professional services, healthcare, hospitality, retail, financial services, and real estate. That is service experience — engagements delivered and paid for — and we will never dress it up as acquisitions. When you see an industry named on our site, it means one of two specific things, and the page saying it will tell you which.

TWO PROOF LANES — NEVER BLENDED OWNED SERVED Three businesses, held and run Engagements delivered by the three arms By our principals and partners: one in automotive services, one in food retail, and one in specialty manufacturing — all in Northern California. What it proves: they have bought, kept payroll, and carried a business through ordinary hard weeks. Advisory, Studio, and Intelligence, serving trades and field services, manufacturing, professional services, healthcare, hospitality, retail, financial services, and real estate. What it proves: the arms have done paid work in these rooms. Service experience — nothing more is claimed. Never phrased as Heritage acquisitions. Never phrased as acquisitions at all. The rule: the lanes never blend. Every proof statement we publish belongs to exactly one lane, and says which. Mixing them would inflate both.
FIGURE 2Owned and served, kept apart. Blending the lanes is how small firms build big-sounding records — a served client becomes “our portfolio,” an owned shop becomes “industry expertise.” We keep the fence up because the fence is the proof.Heritage, stated plainly.

What we won’t claim

This is the section this page exists for. Five refusals, each with its reason.

WHAT WE WON’T CLAIM 01 02 03 04 05 The three purchases as Heritage-entity transactions. The names of the businesses, or of any partner. Deal sizes, prices, or multiples. A tombstone wall. Market statistics dressed as our results. Not until that attribution is confirmed and papered. Who bought what is a legal fact, not a marketing choice, and we will not pre-claim it. Not until cleared. The businesses and the people in them did not sign up to be our marketing, and their privacy outranks our credibility. Numbers without derivations are advertising. When we publish a number, it will come with how it was built — and these are not ours to publish. We have not earned one. Three purchases make a record, not a wall, and a wall built at three would be decoration. Industry-wide figures describe the market, not us. Quoting them as our own track record would be the oldest trick on the shelf.
FIGURE 3Five refusals, on the record. Screenshot this. If you ever catch us breaking one of these lines anywhere we publish, you will have caught us breaking a promise made in writing — and you should say so, loudly.Heritage, stated plainly.

The standing commitment

Two promises govern this page. First: every number we ever publish comes with its derivation — where it came from, how it was counted, what it excludes. A number you cannot check is a mood. Second: when our record grows, this page changes — and every change is recorded on this page, dated, so you can see exactly what we claimed and when we claimed it. A record page that quietly rewrites its own history is not a record page.

The honest con — weigh it before you weigh us

A reader comparing us to a firm with fifty tombstones is comparing a long record to a short one, and the long record is real information — we will not pretend otherwise. What we would ask is that you weigh that record against this page: the exact counts, the two lanes kept apart, the five refusals, the dated record of changes. Then decide for yourself which firm you can actually verify. That trade — length for checkability — is the only one we are offering, and some readers will rightly want the length. We would rather lose those readers honestly than keep them with a wall we have not earned.

Record of changes

2026-08-04 — First published: 200+ studied · 20 offers · 3 owned and operated, all Northern California. Future changes to any number or claim on this page are added here, dated, above this line.

Which arm this becomes

The record is Heritage Capital’s to keep honest, and this page is its single source of truth: updated in one place, dated, never rounded.

The con, stated by us: Three operated businesses is a real record and a small one. We state it exactly so you can weight it exactly.

Heritage Advisory, Studio, and Intelligence are paid services; this section tells you which one this subject becomes, and what is wrong with it. Heritage Capital is a principal buyer, never a broker; sellers pay us no fee. All four arms, with each one’s cons.  ·  Heritage Capital

The first move — ours as much as yours

Everything we buy, and most of what we advise, starts with the Read — a structured look at how a business actually runs. It is where our principals’ two hundred studies became twenty offers, and it is the same instrument whether you are testing us or testing your own business. If what it finds is “not ready” or “not us,” that is what it will say.

Education, not advice. Your accountant, attorney, and family make every real decision with you — and any figure you ever see from us comes with its derivation attached.
